Gyms
LA Fitness commissioned Lewis & Hickey Architects Ltd to convert this former Rover Dealership located on the outskirts of Kettering into a modern health and fitness centre. The transformation was achieved using contemporary colours and finishes, and a lagoon was created in the former showroom through stunning lighting and glass designs. The reflective electric blue glazed frontage with silver fascia band gave the impression of an open training area whilst still providing the club members with privacy. An existing stair tower was used to Sign the building and this is emphasized at night through the use of blue up lighters. The centre has become a local landmark and focal point that is highly visible from the adjacent A14.The buildings exposed columns and open ceiling spaces were incorporated in the designs to create an industrial theme with a contemporary feel. The café entrance area has views through to the Swimming Pool and Gymnasium Areas. These were complimented by accent lighting projected onto the mirror like Pool ceiling and the exposed mechanical and electrical services running beneath the metallic Gymnasium ceiling. Focal points were created through the use of Lifestyle Images created using advanced print technology. In the Gymnasium areas Plasma screen technology is incorporated into the industrial aesthetic. The project was completed within narrow financial constraints to a 16 week construction programme, and has exceeded the membership targets set by LA Fitness, providing new use for an otherwise obsolete building.
