We have dug deep into the archives for this throwback Thursday. In fact we have gone back 81 years to when the practice was still known as W.A.Lewis. The practice was renamed Lewis & Hickey ten years after this project which is an office block in Baker Street (just down from where our own Baker Street office used to be for many years).
This classic ashlar fronted 6 storey building was clearly designed by W.A Lewis in conjunction with interior designer Robert Lutyens who was the son of the famous architect Edwin Lutyens. As was common in those days the building was ‘signed’ by the inscribed stone set in the frontage as illustrated.
81 years on and the building is weathering well and still has plenty of life in it yet. True ‘sustainability’!
