Waitrose’s new Northwich store has opened ready for Christmas. Lewis and Hickey’s Retail and Regeneration Team were appointed by Russell Construction to deliver the 27,500 sq ft new build retail unit which is part of a wider £20million mixed-use scheme to revamp a derelict riverside site at Hayhurst Quay. The building has been sensitively designed to address its urban context and riverside setting whilst meeting the aspirations of Waitrose.
The store’s completion is a key milestone in the wider regeneration of Hayhurst Quay, which includes plans for retirement homes, a leisure unit, marina and improved public access.
Works included extensive site remediation, soft and hard landscaping and a new improved marina slipway. In addition, Lewis and Hickey have worked with Land and Water group to design a new marina facilities building which serves visiting canal boats. The floating building links with the new landscaped river frontage to contribute and reinforce Northwich as a visitor destination.
The scheme was developed by H20 Urban, a joint venture between The Canal and River Trust and regeneration developer bloc.
