In 2003 our London office delivered a flagship mixed use development for Spacia central to the Waterloo East platform viaduct regeneration. In consultation with English Heritage; the viaduct and its 16 arches were waterproofed and mezzanine structures inserted to provide double height spaces for offices, restaurants, cafes and a gymnasium.
The leaning glazed front elevation was designed to reduce heat and glare within the south facing spaces and to maximise light into the deep arches. To the rear, simple glass in-fills were recessed into the arches to give a subtle solution to the elevation that overlooks the neighbouring conservation area.
The development has been through several changes of use over the years and currently houses a number of design companies. It still looks as fresh today as when we designed it.
