In 2013, Lewis & Hickey won a joint design & PMC bid with project partners SGS India to create an iconic business district of international standard.
The team took up the challenge to design urban spaces which are innovative, flexible, adaptable, safe, and engineered to integrate within their natural surroundings creating a self-sustainable microcosm. This was achieved through extensive study, planning exercises and rigorous workshops with stakeholders.
The layout of the masterplan highlights the Exhibition and Convention facilities sitting along the prominent edges of the site with best access and maximum visibility. The remaining facilities sit closer to existing developed areas allowing better integration into neighbourhoods.
The crown jewel of the district is the convention centre and encircling exhibition halls from which radiate arteries which flow through the entire district. These connections form the base structure of public paths, public spaces, plazas, landscape and roads, creating an intertwined network of public spaces. They link directly to the more formal layout of the commercial, retail, ancillary zones.
The design proposal takes into consideration needs of end users, stakeholders, operators and planners to create a cohesive masterplan.
