Refurbishment

Lewis & Hickey were appointed to implement the refurbishment of Paterson's Land, a grade 'B' teaching college built in 1013 which is located on the Holyrood campus, within a world heritage site. As a result of the completion of a new library on campus, the former library in Paterson's Land became vacant. This enabled Moray House to re-assess their departmental requirements and to raise the profile of their catering facility to the increasing student population.

A new dining facility was created in the former library, the existing listed bookcases being retained and restored as a design feature. The arrangement of mezzanines presented a design challenge in providing disabled access and a glazed lift was incorporated in the main entrance hall following consultation with Historic Scotland.

In addition to improving access, full fabric repairs were carried out, with installation of IT and services upgrades as required to provide a modern teaching, research and administrative facility.
