Visitors Centres

The Bennachie Visitor Centre was a Design Competition winner for a resource centre to be located at the foot of the Bennachie range.

The centre was to be multi-purpose and was to include exhibition space, audio-visual facilities and toilets for walkers and yet was to be sensitive to the woodland setting.

The building is compact but involves a complex relationship of spaces reflecting the building's various uses. Natural materials were used with the main structure being timber frame with local stone used for the courtyard and landscaping. Consideration was also given to energy conservation systems, the most notable being the "breathing wall" system.
