The Edinburgh International Festival & Fringe Festival are both in full swing and to acknowledge this we looked back in our Edinburgh office archives at a project for the Filmhouse Cinema which we completed back in 1989.

The project consisted of the considered and careful conversion of an historic ‘B’ Listed church in the centre of Edinburgh into a cinema complex. A principle auditorium was formed in the main church whilst retaining the original stained glass windows. A second smaller auditorium in the church hall plus a private screening facility was also created. Additionally a bar, restaurant, exhibition space and shop were formed around the reception area.

Since 1978, Filmhouse on Lothian Road has been Edinburgh's foremost independent cinema, celebrating world cinema in all its brilliance and diversity. Today it is the home of the Edinburgh Film Festival hosting star-studded events and showing award-winning independent cinematic treats from around the world.
